SIX SRI LANKAN FISHERMEN ARRESTED BY INDIA

The photo published in The Hindu shows four of the Sri Lankans arrested by Indian Coast Guard 128 nautical miles off the Kakinada coast on Sunday for fishing in Indian territorial waters.

They were brought to the Kakinada port on Tuesday and handed over to Andhra Pradesh Marine police at the Kakinada port in East Godavari district.
The vessel set sail from Matara on June 28.
The Hindu reported, “The Coast Guard and the Marine police sold the fish catch of Tuna, that was seized from the fishing vessel, which fetched ₹33,000 during the auction.”
“Cases have been registered cases against the Sri Lankan crew under the Section 3/10 and 7/14 of the Maritime Zones of India (Regulation of fishing by foreign vessels) Act, 1981 under the Vakalapudi Marine Police limits in Kakinada,” said Mr. Gowri Shankar to The Hindu.
The six fishermen have been identified as Jagat Priyantha (skipper), Pala Vitanage, Charith Madusudhan, Nuwan Kamal Prasad, Kuda Baduge Ujith, and Nuwan Sameera.
